Youth In-Town & Traveling Basketball Leagues, Sponsored, Grades 1- 8
LYBA offers a recreational program for boys & girls in Grades 1 – 8, in which everyone makes a team. Grades 1 & 2, which play on Saturday morning, are primarily instructional in nature.  Specifically, each one hour Saturday morning block dedicates 30 minutes to teaching basic basketball fundamentals (e.g., dribbling, passing, shooting), followed by a thirty (30) minute scrimmage vs. another 1st-2nd grade team. In addition, LYBA may periodically offer optional clinics for this age group during the season to advance players’ skills & development.  As for 3rd through 8th grade, teams have one practice and one game per week with an official referee at each game.  Optional clinics may also be made available to 3rd & 4th grade participants as well.  More information about the clinics will be provided in late November/early December. The season generally starts in early December and ends in early March.
LYBA also offers optional travel teams for Grades 3 – 8, which include an incremental player fee & uniform deposit in addition to the standard LYBA registration fee. Travel team players are selected through a try-out process in which LYBA utilizes independent evaluators.  Travel try-outs are held in late October/early November. More information will be available at LYBA registration nights.  The 2016/2017 LYBA registration fees will vary by grade.  All LYBA reg. fees will be posted on the LYBA website (, as well as made available at the Longmeadow Parks & Rec Dept. [LPRD] located in the Community House, and at all LYBA registration nights. THE PLAYER REGISTRATION FEE WILL BE WAIVED FOR A PLAYER IF HIS/HER PARENT IS VETTED & APPROVED TO SERVE AS HEAD COACH.  More details will be available on-line & during the registration process. Anyone interested in coaching should sign up during registration.
Registration begins August 22, 2016. You can register your child on-line at 24 hours per day [only credit cards are accepted]. If you register on-line and are interested in coaching, you must notify LYBA via the website.  In addition, registration can be done in person at LPRD at the Longmeadow Community House during regular business hours. The only form of payment accepted by LPRD at the Community House is a bank or personal check [no credit cards or cash will be accepted by LPRD]
For the 2016-2017 season, LYBA will hold two registration nights at the Longmeadow Community House from 6:30-8:30 pm:
