What: The Longmeadow Youth Basketball Association is sponsoring Open Clinics for all boys & girls that are currently registered in the LYBA 2011-2012 3rd & 4th Grade programs.

Where: Williams Middle School

When: Mondays December 12th through February 13th (excluding 12/26 & 1/2) 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Details: This free, 8-clinic program is sponsored by LYBA and run by a number of the coaches in both the boys’ and girls’ 3rd & 4th grade divisions. These clinics are optional and participants are invited to attend as many of the 8 sessions as they wish. The sessions are intended to compliment team practices and coaches’ instruction while progressively preparing for the next level and more competitive play.

Each session will include warm-ups, drill rotations, game-play and contests. The drills will be flexible enough to accommodate all levels of ability and challenge those ready for more advanced attention. The program format will be similar each week, but is subject to change depending on the number of participants each week.

These sessions will be progressively challenging and will focus on elements of the game directly related to the current season and the next level of play. Sessions will be appropriately paced and instructional while giving players at this level extra time to just play, practice, develop and have fun.

BASKETBALL CLINICS

1st & 2nd Grade Boys & Girls

Where: Greenwood Children Center

When: Sundays December 11th through February 12th (excluding 12/25 & 1/1)

1st Graders 10:30 am – 11:30 am; 2nd Graders 11:30 am – 12:45 pm

Details: This free, 8-clinic program is sponsored by LYBA and run by a number of the coaches in both the boys’ and girls’ 1st & 2nd grade divisions. These clinics are optional and participants are invited to attend as many of the 8 sessions as they wish. The sessions are intended to compliment the practices and instructional games that are already taking place on Saturday mornings.

For the first 5-10 minutes each week participants will engage in a series of warm-ups and exercises which emphasize fitness, footwork, and fun. For the next 30 minutes participants will be divided into small, manageable groups and will rotate through a series of skill-development drills, including dribbling, shooting, and passing/catching. For the final 20-25 minutes participants will compete in games and contests that emphasize the various skills developed each week.

The drills will be flexible enough to accommodate beginners and challenge those ready for more advanced attention. The program format will be similar each week, but is subject to change depending on the number of participants each week.
